Canadian Occupational Safety magazine has named Fleet Safety International a winner of its 2026 Readers' Choice Award in the Safe Driving Training category. This is the second year in a row FSI has taken this category, and it's part of the publication's 11th annual Readers' Choice Awards for Best Safety Suppliers.
A vote from the people who buy this training
Unlike an industry judging panel, the Readers' Choice Awards are decided entirely by ballot. Occupational health and safety professionals across Canada cast confidential votes between May 11 and June 5, 2026, choosing the suppliers they trust to deliver measurable results, not the ones with the lowest sticker price. Canadian Occupational Safety's editorial team handles the nominations; the outcome is up to the readers.
Winning that vote once is validation. Winning it twice, in a category as competitive as safe driving training, says something more specific: the people responsible for their organization's driver safety programs are seeing consistent results, year over year.
What's behind the win
FSI has been building driver safety authority in Western Canada for more than 40 years, and the foundation of that work is the S.A.F.E.R. Driving System (Space, Attitude, Foresight, Eyesight, Responsibility), a methodology developed with Dr. Randy Flemmer through decades of research. It's also the only training provider in the region operating a purpose-built driving track, giving fleets a way to put that methodology to the test in a skid vehicle rather than a classroom.
That combination, a documented methodology plus a physical proving ground, is what OHS professionals are voting for when they name FSI a Readers' Choice winner.
How FSI trains drivers, program by program
FSI's training runs across four distinct tracks, each built for a different audience:
New drivers in Alberta get their classroom foundation through FSI's online Class 5 Novice course, delivered through 191 licensed driving schools across the province. Schools handle the in-vehicle instruction directly with their own students; FSI's role is the online theory component behind the scenes.
Employers and fleets across the country bring the S.A.F.E.R. Driving System into their own organizations, building safer driving habits into their workforce with a methodology backed by decades of research.
Fleets that want hands-on assessment send their drivers to FSI's in-person training at the Calgary driving track: skid vehicle exercises, precision backing, collision avoidance, and direct mentoring and coaching from FSI instructors, finishing with a 63-point professional assessment.
Individual drivers and commercial fleets turn to FSI's online courses for NSC-compliant training (hours of service, pre-trip inspections, cargo securement, weights and dimensions), plus defensive driving and Alberta's 3-demerit reduction courses. FSI is one of only two AB-approved online providers for DDC, and currently the only approved online provider for PDIC. The full course catalogue covers all of it.
