What does SAFER™ stand for?
SAFER™ represents the five core principles of proactive driving:
- S – Space (Maintaining a safe following distance)
- A – Attitude (Maintaining a calm and focused driving mindset)
- F – Foresight (Anticipating hazards before they occur)
- E – Eyesight (Actively scanning for potential dangers)
- R – Responsibility (Taking ownership of driving decisions and safety)
Who should take a SAFER™ training course?
SAFER™ courses are ideal for:
- Corporate fleet drivers & safety managers
- Professional & commercial drivers
- Energy & oilfield operators
- High-risk drivers seeking improvement
- Anyone looking to improve defensive driving awareness
How does the SAFER™ System differ from traditional defensive driving?
Unlike standard defensive driving programs that focus on tactics, the SAFER™ System incorporates driver behavior awareness, helping individuals recognize and adjust their focus in real-time.
Who developed the SAFER™ training system?
Developed by Dr. Randy H. Flemmer, the SAFER™ System is a strategic and behavior-based driver training method designed to help drivers improve awareness, reduce risk, and enhance decision-making on the road. Unlike traditional defensive driving programs, the SAFER™ System accounts for fluctuations in driver performance, providing proven techniques to help drivers recognize when they are less focused and regain control.
How does the 3 Demerit Reduction Program work?
Our Alberta 3 Demerit Reduction course is an online course approved by the Provincial Government. Upon successful completion, you may apply for the reduction of 3 demerit points from a valid Alberta driver’s license. You must obtain a minimum mark of 80% on the final exam.
Once completed, a Notice of Completion form will be mailed within 7 business days. Bring this form and your program certificate to a local registry office in Alberta. Alberta residents can apply for a 3-demerit reduction once every 2 years.
Non-Alberta residents can take this program but will not qualify for the demerit point reduction; they will only receive an online course completion certificate.
What happens if I don’t pass the final exam?
If you do not pass with 80% or higher, you will have two additional attempts to retake the exam.
